Generally I’ve been allowing an hour to reach the Loop from Rogers Park. This time I added about 30 minutes. The Morse CTA station platform was packed with others headed for the rally, mostly, and the southbound train was pretty well populated but had some empty seats. I got one. A few station stops down the line and it packed.
The protest was held at Grant Park’s Butler Field. This is a performance venue, complete with a stage and sound system; all the speakers were clearly audible. Though I didn’t pay them much mind. I was mostly interested in the attendees and their signs.
It was a pretty good turnout. Butler Field occupies a city block. My guesstimate is that several tens of thousands turned out to protest the Trump regime. I left a bit short of an hour after the start of the rally and large numbers of people were still arriving. They came in waves as if from trains unloaded.
It was a pleasure to once again touch base with my old outfit, Chicago DSA. They had a contingent there with flags and banners. But no, I’m not going to become again an activist. (Been there; done that; plenty of t-shirts.)
Will these events, these rallies save the Republic? They do seem to make Trump and his enablers nervous and that is something. But Trump’s approval ratings in the opinion polls, as measured by Nate Silver, may wiggle up or down but seem to be pretty stable.
Here are some of the photos that I took. For some reason, my camera and I had a tough time of it.

awesome pictures :). Tribune estimated 100K, and per Igor, “about the same as at the Women’s March 2017,” which was about 100K.

Igor’s comparison is apt. I was thinking it was a bit smaller but I left not long after 12:30 and large numbers were still arriving. Not too many were leaving, but I take my senior discounts whenever I can… π
