“C’est la Vie”

This is a recent video by Michel Sanchez, whose YouTube channel is about a decade old this year. This is, begging your pardon, my first exposure to it. But there is, apparently, an entire video genre of similar surreality. I haven’t bothered to learn its label.

I would characterize this short (4:05) video as: fascination inspired by body horror with a steampunk sensibility. It is an anthology of micro vignettes of emotion performed by various fairies: goblins, hobgoblins, pixies, elves, brownies… Maybe even selkies and banshees… It blurs humanity with the alien, the surreal with the mundane (with a coating of coal dust) all firmly within the uncanny valley. I just had to share, even though this genre is largely unexplored territory for me.

Sanchez describes the video thusly: “Petit Vidéo-clip sur ma musique et les images faites avec Midjourney“.
